Sorry for the long unexpected downtime. However my shared service hosting company suspended my account for cpu usage. I think it was a duplicate post query that was running through a plugin, which I’ve since disabled.

I’m hoping that was it.

They’ll let me know if all was done.

I’m considering removing the categories for the non technical stuff (but leave the content). Just to clean up the categories a bit. I’m also planning a redesign to allow better laid out content.

The final outcome I want is to grow the site, and give and provide free technical help via experiences I’ve had, experiences others have had, and just keeping the community (Linux in general) up to date with “What’s going on”.

I am doing this change so that I can reclaim benkevan.com as a personal site for my family and continue to provide blogs about things around technology etc.

The new site will also be redesigned at some point.

I’m not very good at all these redirect things, but plan on just doing a plain

Redirect 301 / http://www.freetechie.com so that everything is redirected.. and clean it up from there.

I’m actually hoping that the change in names won’t hurt my google rank too much, but also hope that it’ll be a better change, and will allow me to make it a more technology based site, that can grow, and hopefully I’ll be able to get some contributers on board.

So.. with that said.. sorry for any weird oddities that may come about.. I hope to get it all done by the end of the weekend.

With that said, I wanted to give some experience I’ve had with lunarpages.

First off, when I started my site it was hosted by aplus.net, which was phenomenal service, but as they grew, so did the restrictions on the shared hosting services. While I was with aplus I kept getting 500 errors with my wordpress, wiki and coppermine installations, which were due to restrictions in place for the amount of concurrent transactions I could have (i forget the amount as that was 2 or so years ago).

After these errors with aplus.net, I decided to host the services myself on an old outdated machine, but that didn’t last long as my 1 year old son at the time, thought the lights on the cable modem were too intriguing and he’d turn it off and on all day long thus causing un-expected downtime.

This is when I met lunarpages, which was referred to me by a friend (who got the credit that I’d like any of you who decide to try lunarpages out to allow me to have). Since I’ve been on their services I’ve only had 1 unexpected downtime due to a DC power outage (during major storms last year), but have had no errors on any of my pages, and their shared server packages are not riddled with millions of different constraints which allows me to have a nice functional website, with a lost monthly cost (I wish I could reclaim the cost via ad’s or using some other method, but I’m not at that point).

So with all that said, I would recommend lunarpages to my friends, my foes and my colleges alike.

Core Security Technologies notified us that admin pages added by certain plugins could be viewed by unprivileged users, resulting in information being leaked. Just wanted to let everyone know that I’m still around. I’ve been really busy trying to get a new e-commerce website to go “live” at work.

We’re closing in on our go-live date and it seems as though we’ll hit our recent target. Once live I’ll post it up.. but it’s been keeping me quite busy.

I’ll post some stuff up about the current condition of our banks, and what the gov tries to make us believe.

I’m still working at getting more articles out there for anything, again asking anyone for help or ideas ..

If you run into any anomalies please let me know, as the migration required some modification to the sql scripts (because of how lunar pages handles their database naming) and some other issues.. But I think I ironed them all out.

I am actually working on converted my site to a hosted service (lunarpages.com), but need to modify quite a few things to get the databases uploaded, as lunarpages.com puts account suffix infront of the databases..

Quite lame.. but with this down time I hope to have it all done by friday..

But wait, there’s more. I am also going to try to add a new section (if I figure out how) that will include a bunch of financial style news.

Not only is the look different, I also decided to upgrade to the newest version of wordpress (2.7) and thought it’d be a good time to start fresh (I’ve been a bit quiet lately because of a huge project at work).

I am also going to go back to all my posts and correct the taggings / categories, and try to make a section (a 3rd one?) for more updates of my personal life (for my little tyke).

Hope all is well and be sure to be back as I’ll be trying to do a few blogs a week.

PS: If anyone knows how to add a separate section where I can send blog postings please let me know (also please let me know if that made sense). Just to elaborate, what i’m looking for is having separate categories and have postings in those categories not show up on the main blog. I’m not looking for a multi installation..

So that shouldn’t be too bad, should it? No, it shouldn’t. But then you have to take into mind you have WordPress. Spammers love wordpress, and how do they spam wordpress? With SQL of course, taking up a bunch of your Concurrent SQL queries. I’ve turned off comments on my blog, and since then (this morning) I have not received 1 Internal 500 error. I’ll give it a shot for a few days and see how it pans out.

This issue was found when upgrading from WordPress 2.0.4 to 2.0.5, Not sure how it passed QA but hopefully it’ll be fixed soon in a 2.0.5.1 release or 2.0.6 really soon. I’ll also check to see why I am getting more “Internal Errors” while trying to access the site in general.
