The newest release of the Chrome Unstable browser is upon us..

Here is more information visit:
http://dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel

Here is a quick Change Log:
Linux (3.0.197.11)
Default to showing the custom Chrome frame for most users [r22193].
Bug 15952: Use Linux native-looking title bar buttons.
Many plugin fixes; fewer crashes [r21992], [r22037], [r22083] and Gmail no longer hangs [r22165].
GTK theme mode no longer fails to display the back button on recent Linux distros [r22242].
GTK themed location bar now matches theme text color (fix for dark themes) [r22018].
Match GTK’s font hinting settings [r22411].

I’ve made some rpm’s to make it easier for you to install on openSUSE (and other RPM variations):

The files are located here:
i386:
http://www.benkevan.com/upload/software/openSUSE/google-chrome-unstable-3.0.197.11-1.i386.rpm
x86_64:
http://www.benkevan.com/upload/software/openSUSE/google-chrome-unstable-3.0.197.11-1.x86_64.rpm

You can install using:
x86_64:
sudo rpm -Uvh http://www.benkevan.com/upload/software/openSUSE/google-chrome-unstable-3.0.197.11-1.x86_64.rpm

i386:
sudo rpm -Uvh http://www.benkevan.com/upload/software/openSUSE/google-chrome-unstable-3.0.197.11-1.i386.rpm

Note: If you get dependency errors please add --nodeps

Due to popular demand I’ve included the symlinks in the build of the rpm package (I’ve tested the 32-bit but not the 64 bit).

Changes:For 64-Bit I have linked the required libraries previously needed by the 32-Bit libgconf-2 packages to the libraries in /opt/google/chrome/lib32. However, I do not have a 64-bit machine to test on, so can someone please test and comment?

If the above rpm installs, but does not run because of a missing library, you can run the following commands:
for i in libsmime3.so libnssutil3.so libnss3.so libssl3.so; do sudo ln -s /usr/lib/$i /usr/lib/$i.1d; done
and
for i in libplds4.so libplc4.so libnspr4.so ; do sudo ln -s /usr/lib/$i /usr/lib/$i.0d; done

Also within this build I did a post script to include PARTIAL flash support (assuming your flash is installed as /usr/lib/browser-plugins/libflashplayer.so) If you have other locations please let me know, and I can change this and look for the file prior to linking it, but too lazy for now).

You can start google chrome with flash support using:
google-chrome --enable-plugins

NOTE: I will try to get this into Build Service when I have a change to take a peek how Build Service works.. I have quite a busy life.. so I’m hoping some time next week.. that will do..

    hi,

i just installed the 64 bit rpm ,it didn’t work
    installed fine
but at first run it complains some libs not present, that are present in /lib64
so i add the path to LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    but now i get
/opt/google/chrome/chrome: error while loading shared libraries: libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

so it seems that it needs i686 gtk, which doesn’t make any sense to me, so maybe you can shed some light on this

    Hello,

I get the following when I run the program
/opt/google/chrome/chrome: error while loading shared libraries: libgconf-2.so.4: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

I am running a 64bit version of SUSE

works on opensuse 11.1 and 11.2 but not on 11.0. is there a workaround?

Ben, maybe you should add that the 64 bit Chromium still uses 32 bit libs (and it was said on google chrome blog that they won’t be porting it soon to 64 bit). If you get a dependency error then you either need the 32 bit library and if it says that it needs something.so.0d/1d then you need to create a symlink.

    @BenderBendingRodriguez
crap, why would they do that, i’m no developer but i don’t think it’s that much of hard work to port it

Finally, someone has made an RPM. I’ve just tried it on Fedora 11 x86_64 and it won’t install, though. It requires gtk-32bit, but Fedora doesn’t use the “-32bit” convention.

Oh well, at least it sounds like I should be able to try it out on my openSuse box at home :)

Installed the 64bit version on Mandriva 2009.1. Works like a charm. Thanks.
