shankar,

They removed the kcm module from the Advanced System Settings so you don't have any control over it anymore. Grrrrrrrrr!

Poodles,

That's a very interesting comment. Although when I first saw Akondi and Nepomuk startup, I didn't give it too much thought, but now that you mention it, I'm going to delve a little deeper and find out what resources they do take (even if minimal they are resources that aren't being used for other things, or resources being taken).

If you have more knowledge of the usage of Akondi and Neopuk (ie benchmarks with 4.3.x vs 4.4 I'd be quite interested in them), if not.. I may see if I can put some together with like hardware.

Thanks for the comment.

i have to agree with poodles on this, i dont index my files, and i dont need to.always you can turn it off after login, but still the developers should provide it as optional on first login, that would save the iration when i see the logo 'akonadi server starting'.

The KDE 4 developers are now forcing you to use Nepomuk, Strigi and Akonadi if you want to use KDE 4.4. I have a nicely custom built KDE 4.3.4 tweaked with some gcc compile options and the above items totally disabled. I was able to achieve about 85% the speed of my most excellent KDE 3.5.10 desktop.

I don't need to index my files. I put things in folders called Music, Pictures, Documents, Videos and Downloads where I can find them. I don't need to index my dang Kmail in a database that can be shared. I have emails going back years and they are all cataloged into folders. The search function works just fine.

Why are the forcing this Nepomuk crap on me? I don't want my nimble KDE 4 turning into a CPU hogging Vista Molasses operating system. Please KDE developers listen to your fans and stop this madness now!
