Major PS3 Outage – Sony Playstation 3 PSN Network Down

PSN Today I tried to get onto Call of Duty Mordern Warfare 2 and was unable to log onto PSN…

I checked out engadget.com and sure enough they are reporting the following:

It’s unclear exactly what’s going on at the moment, but it appears that the PlayStation Network is down and causing a whole host of related problems for PS3 systems, including 8001050F error codes, game crashes, corrupted trophy info, and even the complete inability to launch certain titles. There’s no ETA on when things will get back to normal — looks like it’s gonna be a Blu-ray kind of evening for PS3 owners out there.

Update: Sony’s tweeted that it’s “looking into it,” and our boys at Joy say that owners of original PS3s are seeing their clocks reset and even data loss in some cases. We’ll keep you updated.

Update (1): Affected models seem to be majority of the “Chunky” old style PS3′s. The PS3 slims seem to be functioning correctly thus making me believe it’s a local bug on PS3′s, similar to that of a Y2K bug (the timing of it being Feb 28th possibly a leap year issue)

Update (2): You’ll notice that your time will be going back to 12/31/1999 further solidifying my guess of a Y2K type bug in the local PS3 time mechanism.
