Blogilo – The Blog Gigolo – KDE 4.4

I’ve recently come across the application Blogilo, which I from here on out will reference as the Blog Gigolo. Most of my blog posts I do in the wordpress backend, in a web browser since it’s what I knew.
However, recently I found this awesome application which is supposed to be shipping along side with KDE 4.4. The name Blogilo comes from unknown source to me, [ continue reading... ]

Amarok 2.2.1.90 KDE 4.4 – Track Progressions

Recently I upgraded to Amarok 2.2.1.90 from 2.2.0 while testing out some KDE 4.4.
However, when I first started listening to the music I realized that my tracks were playing continuously and not randomly. So I went to the menu’s to change this setting (this is where I had previously changed it). But to my surprise there was nothing in any of the menu’s.
So [ continue reading... ]

KDE 4.4 Beta 2 Released – openSUSE

From the KDE.org Website:

I’ll be writing a little bit about blogilo, which I have used since it’s inception and find it quite compelling.
Plasma for Netbook is a great step forward, however I do not have a netbook nor the funds to purchase one to give it a shot, therefor I will not be able to comment on that much.
I’ll be talking about some more updates [ continue reading... ]

KDE 4.4 Beta 1 – Tabbed Windows Review – openSUSE

Ok,
I have to admit when I first thought or heard of this feature in KDE 4.4, I wasn’t really excited. I thought.. now why the hell would I want that.
Then I started using it.. and found quite a few usage scenario’s for it.
The first one, I realized right after I launched my VirtualBox. I had always hated how VirtualBox had a separate [ continue reading... ]

Switching from Compiz to the KDE Native Composite Engine

Originally when I switched from GNOME to KDE 4, I kept using Compiz. But with the unknown state of Compiz++ / Compiz-Fusion, I opted to give the KDE 4 native compositing engine an honest shot.
I had a few criteria that had to be met:
I wanted CTRL + ALT + Arrows to determine which direction to move my “Cube”
I wanted CTRL + ALT + SHIFT [ continue reading... ]

KDE 4.3 – It’s ready for the real world

Back during the release of KDE 4.0.0, I made a decision to abandon KDE and move to GNOME as I felt that KDE 4 was not ready for my daily use production work machine and didn’t feel like staying on KDE 3.5.10 which wasn’t going to be maintained going forward. I switched to GNOME flawlessly and was working away like anyone else, but it felt [ continue reading... ]

KDE 4.2 Progress Report

Well, I’ve been a few days with KDE 4.2 and thought I’d give a little insight of my experience and why I made the decision to go back to KDE 3.5.10.
Crashes:
I had 2 crashes with KDE 4.2, not surprisingly related to the Plasma portion of the desktop. Once while changing themes, and another while changing the height of a second panel.
The Pros:
Speed. The desktop [ continue reading... ]

I am giving KDE 4.2 an HONEST try

Today, I decided to install KDE 4.2 and run it with its native “desktop effects” and not Compiz. Here are some immediate things I had “issues / gripes” with.
1) No mouse binding for the Cube effects with Kwin effects (haven’t looked more into it, just initial things)
2) Quick launcher is quite “BLAH”
3) Wish there was a default Theme that had a slimmer title bar [ continue reading... ]
