Kubuntu and KDE 4 User Auto Login

Here’s a quick how to on setting user x to auto login under KDE 4. You may want to do this if it’s your machine at home, or you really have no security reason to have a login screen.
If you didn’t set it at the installation screens you can easily set it up in systemsettings with the Login Manager module.

Configuring Plasma Theme KDE 4.4

I know when people install KDE 4.4, they’ll be wondering “Where do I configure my Plasma Theme Now”.
This is mostly in part because it was moved from the “Desktop Settings” into systemsettings.
Here’s a little pictorial on changing it:
In the menu choose Configure Desktop (which is systemsettings via the command line)

In the General Tab double click on Appearance (hovering over it, will show you [ continue reading... ]

KDE 4.2 Day 1.5

So today was my first day starting off with KDE 4.2, but it came to a screeching halt this morning when I saw that my integration with GTK was horrible. (I had training today on some BMC software, and didn’t have the time to play with it until we got to break later in the day).
I first just looked for something with gtk and [ continue reading... ]

In some previous writings of mine, I kept harping on the dismissal of KDE 3.5 in the next release of openSUSE, openSUSE 11.2 (which will probably be due out in Q3 / Q4 of 2009). However, one thing I’ve always neglected to do was look at the bright side of the drop of main stream support for KDE 3.5.
First, I have to give [ continue reading... ]
