Tiny Core Linux v2.8 was just released. Here is an excerpt of the target, or theme of this release:
The theme for this release is to have a single directory for extensions and dependencies. This greatly improves systems resources by having a single copy of dependencies, also greatly improves flexibility in “moving” applications present upon boot, dependency auditing, and both batch and selective updating.

Installing BackTrack Linux 4 – Security Distribution
Here’s an explination of what “BackTrack Linux” is from backtrack-linux.com
Here are some screenshots of an installation I did into VirtualBox.
I’ll give more tutorials on using BackTrack Linux when I get it installed on a different machine, to do actual penetration and not from a VirtualBox machine.
Boot to the CD and you’ll be greeted with this grub screen. I chose to log into the [ continue reading... ]

OpenOffice.org 3.2.0 Build 9319 Available for openSUSE
The openSUSE Build Service repository for OpenOffice Unstable has received OpenOffice.org 3.2.0, build 9319. I’m not sure if this is the final build from OpenOffice.org, as their release schedule doesn’t have a final target date for 3.2 release, due to the Holiday’s.
But the above package is available, and I’ve installed and it’s working very well.

KDE 4 Windows Switching Preview – openSUSE
I decided to check out the different Windows Switching options in KDE 4, and decided I’d give a little preview of the 5 different methods which are:
No EffectBox SwitchPresent WindowsCover SwitchFlip Switch
I found my favorite to be “Cover Switch” for some unknown reason.
Here’s a screenshot of each one (Minus the No Effect):
These are configured in systemsettings under “Effects for window switching as shown [ continue reading... ]
Patching Linux Servers in the Enterprise
Do you do it? Is the process automated? What updates do you apply?
So recently a discussion came of patching some Linux servers in the enterprise with some Unix administrators. Their stance was “we don’t patch our servers, unless there is a reason to upgrade the version for application compatibility”.
I found this compelling as many of the updates pushed out are related to vulnerabilities which have [ continue reading... ]
Linux Mint 8 Installation Visual Walk Through – VirtualBox
Here’s a walk through of the Linux Mint 8 Helena. You’ll notice a ton of similarities between the installation process of Linux Mint 8 and the base it’s built from Ubuntu.
The distribution in this walk through is Linux Mint 8 Main Edition, which is bundled with non-free software, which may make some of the debianites cringe. However, the Mint crew also produces another version [ continue reading... ]
Arch Linux 2009.8 Installation Visualization – VirtualBox
Here’s another visual walkthrough of an installation. This time of Arch Linux Core (Core has all the base packages on CD and you have the option for a network, or cd install), which is typically for the more advanced Linux users.
I’m not going to commentate per screenshot because well, it’d take me FOREVER. I’ll do a few though, and hope I don’t get [ continue reading... ]
Installing Ubuntu 9.10 Walk Through – VirtualBox
I went ahead and just did a quick screenshot walk through of installing Ubuntu 9.10, and some possible points of interest for anyone that may need help understanding the steps.
So here we start:
I am going to assume you know how to download and burn an ISO to a CD, so I will not walk through that process. Once you insert the CD into the drive, [ continue reading... ]

KDE 4.4 Beta 1 – Tabbed Windows Review – openSUSE
Ok,
I have to admit when I first thought or heard of this feature in KDE 4.4, I wasn’t really excited. I thought.. now why the hell would I want that.
Then I started using it.. and found quite a few usage scenario’s for it.
The first one, I realized right after I launched my VirtualBox. I had always hated how VirtualBox had a separate [ continue reading... ]

Do you think QT will be the cross platform IDE of choice in the future? I believe it’s development speed, and improvements could catapult it to being the leading platform in Mobile Devices, and could possibly form Windows to be usable.
Creating Bootable FreeDOS USB – openSUSE Linux
I’ve been reading a story about the Dell Latitude E6500 BIOS and possible over throttling during normal operating conditions, and decided to upgrade my BIOS. Although this task for windows users is pretty straight forward (you download the .EXE binary, and run it). However, with Linux we don’t run the .EXE binary natively.
So our option is to create a FreeDOS Bootable USB, to boot [ continue reading... ]
